Communications Policy

Introductory Statement

Ballyshannon NS prides itself on having ‘open communication’ in the school. We aim to foster an atmosphere of co-operation in our school.

Newsletters

A newsletter will be issued to all parents as necessary through Aladdin. This will inform the school community of upcoming events, meetings, tours etc.

Whole School Meetings

The Board of Management will arrange for an Annual General Meeting to take place in mid-late September of each school year. The aim of this meeting will be to welcome any new parents or staff and to clarify administrative arrangements for the year etc. This meeting should also be a pleasant social event for parents and staff alike.

Parent - Teacher Meetings (Circular Prim 14/04)

In each school year one formal parent/teacher meeting will be held. The meeting will normally take place between 1.45 pm and 5.45 pm unless otherwise agreed at local level between all relevant parties. In any event the parent/teacher meeting will not take place during the school tuition period. The school will close 15 minutes early on the day of the formal parent/teacher meeting.

In Ballyshannon NS we aim to engage in parent-teacher meetings in late October for Seniors and February for Juniors.

Parent-teacher meetings should not be arranged for the day immediately preceding or immediately following the breaks set out in the Standardised School Year.

Once the standardised tests have been administered in May each year parents will be welcome to come and briefly discuss test results at a time suitable for both parent and teacher.

Meetings outside Parent-teacher meetings

If you have any queries, problems or concerns re: your child, please contact your child’s teacher by emailing ballyshannonparents50@gmail.com to arrange a phone call or to meet with them. When making the appointment please indicate the nature of your concern e.g., class work, behaviour related, personal. The teacher will arrange a time where they can give you the time and privacy you may need.

In addition, if there is a change in home circumstances e.g., illness, separation or anything you feel may affect your child, it is important to let us know.


Complaints

Should you have a complaint to make, the school procedure is as follows: -


1. Approach the class teacher with a view to resolving the complaint.


2. Where the parent/guardian is unable to resolve the complaint with the class teacher, she/her should approach the principal with a view to resolving it.


3. If the complaint is still unresolved the parent/guardian should raise the matter with the Chairperson of the Board of Management with a view to resolving it.

Ratification and Review

This policy was ratified at the BoM meeting and will be reviewed as necessary.
